Wordle, the word guessing game that has taken the Internet by storm and racked up millions of daily users in only three months, is certainly already familiar to you if you're a word nerd. But there's a game for you too if you're a bird fanatic as well as a word nerd. BRDL, a game that tests players' ability to decipher the four-letter banding codes that scientists use as a shorthand for species names, was created by Alex Tomlinson, a graphic designer for Audubon (like MODO for mourning dove or GREG for great egret).
The game has gained popularity and has given rise to a British birders-only variant that uses different codes. "It's really unbelievable!" Tomlinson disclosed to Audubon. "I never imagined such a specialized thing would be so well-liked,"
