Letter Boxed

Letter Boxed is a game fun, in this game, you place each letter into the 4 by 4 grid one at a time to create as many 3- and 4-letter words as you can across and down.

The box near the Next button at the top of the screen fills with arbitrary letters. To insert the letter, click or tap anywhere on the playing grid that is empty. When you're satisfied with where you've placed the letter, hit the Next button to lock it in place and receive the following letter. You can try it in several squares.

See how often you can defeat Lexi, the computerized opponent. If space allows, Lexi's playing grid will show up next to or below yours on the screen. You can view Lexi's grid at any time by clicking on her name on the scoreboard if it isn't already visible. In order to return to your personal grid, click "You."

Press the Next button to start a new game after clearing the grids in the previous one. Running totals are maintained until one of you or Lexi hits 100 or more.

To reset all scores and begin a new series, simply press the Clear button at any time.

The letters are randomly selected from a pool of letters, roughly in proportion to how frequently they appear in English words (see table at right). Since letters are picked randomly, they may only appear once or twice in any one game. No more than three of each letter or more than seven vowels are allowed in a game (A, E, I, O, or U). The letters QU are considered to be one letter.

All the 4-letter words that you may possibly create in any row or column are listed. Simply click the? button at the beginning of the row or column you wish to learn more about. The sole requirement is that the row or column already contains at least one letter. The word list considers the letters that have already been employed in the game.
