Reversi

About game

Reversi, also known as Othello, is a strategy board game for two players. The game is played on an 8x8 square board, with each player having a set of pieces that are black on one side and white on the other. The game starts with two black pieces and two white pieces placed in the center of the board in a specific pattern.

The objective of the game is to have the most pieces of your color on the board at the end of the game. The game ends when neither player can make a move or when the board is completely filled with pieces. A player can make a move by placing a piece on the board in such a way that it captures one or more of the opponent's pieces by trapping them between two pieces of their own color in a straight line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal).

The game has simple rules, but it involves a lot of strategic thinking and planning. Players must carefully consider their moves, as each move can potentially give their opponent an advantage. A player can also strategically place their pieces to block their opponent's moves and limit their options. The game can change quickly, as the board can fill up fast, and a single move can create a chain reaction that captures multiple pieces.

Reversi has been around since the late 1800s, and it has been popularized in modern times with computers and online versions. The game has also been the subject of research in artificial intelligence, with many computer programs developed to play Reversi at a high level.

How to play Reversi

  • Players take turns placing their pieces on the board by selecting an empty square.
  • To make a move, a player clicks on the square they want to place their piece.
  • If the move is legal, the piece will flip to the player's color and any opponent's pieces that were trapped between the new piece and other pieces of the same color will also flip to the player's color.
  • If the move is not legal, the player must choose another square to place their piece.
